Cameron Norrie, 32nd seed, and the unseeded Pavel Kotov will face off next at the 2024 French Open. The winner of this second career meeting between these two will play Andy Murray or Stan Wawrinka next. Cameron Norrie defeated Kotov on clay in Barcelona last year in their only meeting so far. Considering he hasn’t lost a first-round tie at Roland Garros in the last three years, he will be confident of making a winning start. The Briton has made the third round in each of the last three seasons here. He is seeking to qualify for the second week of competition for the first time. Norrie has won 14 of 24 matches in 2024 and has recorded half of his wins on clay. The 28-year-old recorded a semi-final finish on clay in Rio, falling short of defending his title. He is currently ranked 33rd in the ATP and arrives in Paris after a second-round exit in Rome.

Pavel Kotov made a run to the quarter-finals in Lyon in his last appearance. The Russian, who is an excellent clay performer, has again played his best tennis on the surface. He has won eight of his 12 matches on clay and produced a semi-final run in Marrakech for a second successive year. The 25-year-old has however never replicated this form at Roland Garros or any major tournament. In fact, before his second-round exit in Melbourne this year, he had never won a main draw match at a Grand Slam. Kotov was eliminated in the opening round in his debut two seasons ago and was last year unable to progress past the qualifiers. A one-time tour finalist, Kotov starts the week in 56th place in the live ranking which is a new career high.
