Cameron Norrie makes his return after missing the Olympics due to injury. In the first round in Montreal, he faces American Marcos Giron. The winner will take on the sixth seed Casper Ruud. Can Norrie win? Here's our match prediction.

Norrie is down at 47th in the new ranking list so needs some massive performances in the next few weeks if he's to be seeded at the US Open. The British player has only played one tournament since getting to the last 32 at Wimbledon.

That was on clay and injury caused him to withdraw from his first round match in the Olympics. This is a hard court tournament and this year Norrie has only reached one quarter-final on this surface. That was in his first singles tournament of the year in Auckland.

He's won two of his three previous matches against Giron. All those matches were on hard courts and the most recent was in the 2023 Auckland event with Norre winning in three sets. The only loss to Giron was in 2022.

Marcos Giron is ranked ten places above his opponent and has a better chance of being seeded in the US Open. He lost in the first round of the Paris Olympics to Felix Auger-Aliassime. Before that though, he'd reached the final of the grass court Hall of Fame Open but didn't beat any top 100 ranked players.

The American got to the final in Dallas and the last four of the Delray Beach Open tournament back in February but has lost four of his last five matches on this surface. There are question marks over Norrie though and we tip Giron to get the win.
