Cameron Norrie and world number 276 Gael Monfils will battle in the first round at the Cincinnati Masters on Sunday. Cameron Norrie is enduring a dip in form and arrives for this match having lost his last three matches. The Briton was defeated in his first match in Toronto and Los Cabos. Both defeats followed after he had been eliminated at Wimbledon in the second round. He will be eager to end this run here and in the process earn his first win against Monfils. Norrie has lost both times that he and Monfils have been paired up against each other. Despite his current struggles, Norrie has had a far-from-decent campaign and has won 30 of the 45 matches he has played. The Frenchman had a belated start to the season and played his first match at Indian Wells in March. He has taken to the court 17 times since then and has compiled a 7-10 record. A quarterfinalist in Cincinnati in 2011, Monfils arrives for his 12th appearance here after a morale-boosting run in Toronto. He won three of his four matches at the Canadian Open to make the quarterfinals. This propelled him up a massive 66 places in the live ranking to his current placing of number 210. Monfils and Norrie last went up against each other four seasons ago on hard court in Zhuhai. The winner here will set up a second-round showdown with either J.J. Wolf or Alex de Minaur.
