Cameron Norrie and Dominik Koepfer, both unseeded, are set to meet yet again in Acapulco. The two will battle in the first round with the winner next playing either Frances Tiafoe or Max Purcell. Cameron Norrie is a former Acapulco finalist. He achieved this feat two seasons ago which is also the last time he took part in this event. As he is coming off a strong run in Rio, the Brit will be confident of another good run. Norrie produced a semifinal finish on clay in Rio. He was unable to defend his title from last season and has now plummeted down the ATP standings. The 28-year-old is now ranked 29th in the live ranking after making a six-place drop. He has compiled an 8-4 record and five of his wins have come on hard courts. Norrie has defeated Koepfer twice in their four previous meetings. He won their last encounter three seasons ago in San Diego.

Dominik Koepfer is also having a strong start to the year. He has won eight of the 11 matches he has so far played, with five coming on hard courts. The German won the Canberra Challenger in his first event of the season and produced a quarterfinal finish in Dallas. This, coupled with the fact that he has defeated Norrie before in this event should have him confident of a win here. Koepfer, who also has two wins over Norrie, defeated the Brit in his last, and only appearance here. That was in 2021 as he produced a semifinal finish. The 29-year-old is experiencing a dip in form and has lost his last two matches. He was defeated in the first round in Los Cabos and is now down to 58th in the live ranking.
