The next chapter in the Battle of Alberta is early on Sunday morning as the 25-15-1 Edmonton Oilers visit the 21-19-5 Calgary Flames. The Flames will be disappointed that they lost at home to the Toronto Maple Leafs in their last game. Having taken a 2-0 lead, they found themselves down 4-2 and though they had got things tied back up but their equaliser was ruled out and they ended up on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline. They had won four games on the bounce ahead of that, including a win in Vegas against a Golden Knights team who have been solid on their own ice. They have been getting the goals flowing over the last few weeks with only the Colorado Avalanche finding the net more often than the Flames have in the month of January. They are going to have to be at their best with the Oilers coming to town but it is a challenge that they are going to relish.
The Oilers have notched up 12 wins in a row, and there is no team who would love to end that win streak more than their biggest rivals, the Flames. It was the 19th of December at the New York Islanders when they were last beaten, going an incredible 20-3 in their last 23 matches. It is a run that has taken them back into a playoff spot and will have the rest of the West looking over their shoulders. They have been an offensive juggernaut for a few years now with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl proving to be one of the most dangerous duos in the league. It has been the defence that has stepped up in recent games, however, only conceding 15 goals in total in their last 10 games. That is a huge step up from where they have been in recent seasons. Eight of their 12 wins in a row have come on the road so they won't fear this trip as they look to continue their winning streak.
