Calgary Flames vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL
by Joseph King | in NHL Predictions
Wednesday in the NHL sees the Calgary Flames hosting the Colorado Avalanche at the Scotiabank Saddledome Arena. The Avalanche have struggled this season as they look to defend their Stanley Cup win from last season. A record of 22 wins, 17 defeats and three overtime losses has them sitting fifth in the Central division and trailing leaders Dallas by 12 points. It’s not uncommon that teams face a “championship hangover” in the following season and that appears to have been the case with Colorado through the first half of the season. There is certainly still time to turn things around however, and a two game winning streak could signal the start of that. The Aves ran out 6-3 winners against Detroit in their last outing which was preceded by a 7-0 demolition of Ottawa. They enter this game with a road record of 11 wins and nine defeats.
Standing in their way is a Calgary side looking to gain some consistency and move up the standings in their own respective division. The Flames have recorded 21 wins, 15 losses and nine overtime defeats so far this year, placing them fifth in the Pacific division but only seven points off leaders Vegas. Their last outing was a 2-1 away defeat to Nashville, their third defeat from the five game road trip that they have just completed. They now return home for four straight at the Scotiabank Saddledome Arena with the Aves the first team on the docket. The Flames ran out 5-3 winners when these two teams met at this arena back in October and Calgary have overall been very strong at home with 12 wins, seven defeats and two overtime losses.
The Avalanche have been plagued by injury problems this season which is one of the main reasons for their slow first half of the campaign. However, there have been positive developments on that front as the defending champions seem to be finally getting some pieces back. Forwards Valeri Nichushkin and Evan Rodrigues are both back as well as Pavel Francouz between the sticks. The Flames don’t have that problem though as they are almost completely healthy with just the absence of Oliver Kylington to deal with.
