Sunday Night Football in the NFL sees an explosive matchup between two of the league’s best quarterbacks when the Green Bay Packers head to upstate New York to take on the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium. It’s been a rough season for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers so far as we approach the midway point of the 2022/23 season. Green Bay find themselves sitting with just a 3-4 record and second in the NFC North behind the division leading 5-1 Vikings. They’ll have to put forward a gargantuan performance in this one if they are to overcome one of the Super Bowl favorites in the 5-1 Buffalo Bills who are looking for their fourth consecutive win. Buffalo’s last game was a morale boosting 24-20 win over their nemesis the Chiefs two weeks ago and are afforded the advantage of coming off a bye week. Green Bay suffered a 23-21 loss to Washington in their last outing.

Green Bay comes into this matchup looking to put an end to an ugly three game losing streak after they had previously started the season 3-4. The offense has been a major problem for the Packers, which is almost difficult to believe given the elite level of talent they have at the quarterback position in Rodgers. Green Bay ranks 23rd in the NFL in points per game at 18.3, significantly lower than their 2021/22 average of 25.6. On the other side, Buffalo has been steamrolling much of their competition, ranking second in the league in points per game at 29.3 and first in the league in average winning margin at a massive +15.8. Buffalo also carry into this game a five game home winning streak, which is the longest active in the NFL.

Buffalo Bills & Green Bay Packers Squad Analysis
All eyes will of course be on the superstar quarterback matchup between Bills play caller Josh Allen and Packers legendary gunslinger Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is clearly feeling the effects of losing his good friend and number one target Devante Adams in the offseason after the all-pro wideout packed his bags for Las Vegas. What’s left is a distinctly average Green Bay offense that has struggled for consistency this season. Josh Allen doesn’t have to worry about that kind of problem as the Bills are loaded with offensive weapons. Buffalo is probably the most complete team in the league and are rightly the current oddsmaker’s Super Bowl favorites at odds of roughly 5/2.

- The line of +10.5 marks the first time in his career that Aaron Rodgers comes into a game as a double-digit underdog.
- Rodgers’ three other largest spreads as an underdog all resulted in losses (+8.5, +8, +7.5) but the Packers were able to cover two of those games, putting them at 2-1 against the spread.
- Underdogs in the NFL this season are 62-45-1 against the spread which includes an incredible 44-22 with spreads of over +3.
- Green Bay’s defense has performed quite well this season and ranks seventh best in terms of average yards allowed per game at 308.4.

We’re going to back the Green Bay Packers on the +10.5 point spread as our bet for this game. This is an absolutely enormous number for one of the best quarterbacks to ever lace em up in Aaron Rodgers to be catching, not to mention in primetime. The oddsmakers clearly value the Buffalo Bills as leaps and bounds better than most any other team, with perhaps the Chiefs the only squad reasonably close, and this spread is more a reflection of their dominance so far. That being said, this is simply too many points and clearly an overreaction to the Bills win against KC and Green Bay's three game losing streak.
