Second seed Karen Khachanov begins his Hangzhou Open campaign in the second round, facing wildcard Bu Yunchaokete. Ahead of the two players’ meeting on Friday, we have a highlight of their stats in this preview, and a prediction. 

Bu Yunchaokete overcame the challenge of Hugo Gaston in the first round, winning in straight sets. This was his 41st win of the season and the 35th on hardcourts. 

The Chinese number three has predominantly featured in the challenger circuit where he has won two titles and finished as runner-up twice. Yunchaokete, who is debuting in this event, has now moved 12 places to 112th in the live ranking. 

Another win will see him move up six more places and set a new career high. 

Karen Khachanov has lost his last two matches and will be eager to bounce back from this slump. The Russian has had an inconsistent season and at the moment has won six more matches than the 17 he lost. 

Champion in Doha in February, Khachanov has suffered most of his losses this year in the second round of a tour event. The 28-year-old’s participation here ends a three-week break from competitive action. 

He was last on the court at the US Open where he suffered a first-round loss in five sets to Daniel Evans. The former world number eight is placed 26th in the live ranking after dropping three places. 

This match will mark the players' first career meeting and the winner will play Mikhail Kukushkin or Alexander Shevchenko next.
