Brandon Nakashima’s Tokyo Open campaign will pit him against unseeded Ugo Humbert in the second round. This will be their second matchup this season and here are the stats and a prediction of this match. 

Nakashima is in terrific form, having won 15 of his last 19 fixtures which have all been on hardcourts. His latest win was a strong straight-sets victory over compatriot and Tokyo seventh seed Frances Tiafoe. 

The American arrived in Tokyo after a semi-final finish in Hangzhou. He will seek, at the very least, another strong run and possibly win his first tour title in two years. Advancing to this round has propelled him up to 33rd in the live ranking which is a new career high. 

Ugo Humbert has defeated Nakashima twice in their previous duels. One of his wins came three months ago as he powered his way to the fourth round at Wimbledon.

The Frenchman, though showing lapses in concentration recently, will be confident of extending his advantage in this fixture. Humbert has lost five of his last 10 matches with four being on hard courts. 

The 26-year-old also began his campaign with a resounding 2-0 victory, beating wildcard Shintaro Mochizuki by the loss of just three games. With that, he claimed the 29th win of his season. 

A champion in Dubai and Marseille, Humbert will hope to produce another title run as the season approaches conclusion. Humbert is currently placed 19th in the ATP. The winner here will battle Jack Draper or Hubert Hurkacz next.
