Unseeded Brandon Nakashima hopes to beat another seed in the US Open. He faces the 18th seed Lorenzo Musetti in round three of this hard court Grand Slam tournament. Here's our match prediction.

The American began this US Open ranked 50th but is now 41st in the live rankings and that's a new career high for him. Round one in New York saw him defeat the 15th seed Holger Rune with just seven games dropped in three sets.

He followed that impressive win with a three-set victory over fellow unseeded player Arthur Cazaux. That has taken him into the third round of the US Open for only the second time, the other being in 2022.

That was also the year in which he achieved his best Grand Slam performance, making it to round four at Wimbledon. Recent form had been patchy and he hadn't made it to a quarter-final in his last seven ATP Tour events.

Lorenzo Musetti has played Nakashima on one previous occasion. That was on grass at Queen's Club this year and the Italian won in three sets. That was during his highly impressive run of form in June and July.

Musetti reached three semi-finals and two finals in consecutive tournaments played on grass and clay. He was the bronze medal winner at this year's Olympic Games. Since then though he's had a dip in form.

The world number 18 has only played one tournament between the Olympics and the US Open, losing in round two of the Cincinnati Masters to Frances Tiafoe. The winner of this match faces either Tomas Martin Etcheverry or Alexander Zverev.

This week has seen him beat Reilly Opelka in four sets and then defeat Miomir Kecmanovic in five. We tip Brandon Nakashima to win this match.
