New York picked up a wild 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in walk off fashion in the bottom of the 13th inning. All of their runs came in extra innings and the Yankees were actually no-hit for 10 innings before finally breaking through. The win snapped a three game losing streak for the Bronx Bombers who have been having an extremely disappointing year. A team that was expected to challenge for a World Series, the Yankees find themselves at the bottom of the AL East with 71 wins and 72 losses. There is only a faint glimmer of postseason hope as they now trail the final Wild Card spot by eight games. The visitors start this game with Clarke Schmidt on the mound who is 9-8 on the year with a 4.58 ERA.

Boston are having a similarly disappointing year as their heated rivals as they currently sit just two games above New York in the AL East. The Red Sox are also clinging on to an outside shot of making a late season run to the playoffs as they trail the Mariners by six games. Like the Yankees, Boston also put an end to a lengthy losing run in their last appearance. A 7-3 home win over the Orioles snapped a four game skid and kept the Sox three games above .500. It was an ugly three game series against Baltimore as the Red Sox allowed 23 runs in their two games prior to their recent win.
