Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in MLB Predictions
MLB action on Monday night sees the struggling Boston Red Sox host the red hot Houston Astros at Fenway Park. The Sox are coming off a tough 7-1 away loss to the Rangers which snapped a two game winning streak and prevented the sweep after Boston took the first two games of the series. It’s been a rough start for Boston as their 13-21 record already sees them in a deep hole with the division leaders New York already 12 games ahead. They’ll now make the long trek back to Boston from Texas for a quick turnaround as they come up against one of baseball’s hottest teams in the Astros. Houston were on a fantastic 11 game winning streak before falling to Nationals on Saturday and were able to quickly get back to winning ways here, coming out on top 8-0 in their last game and taking two of the three in the series against Washington. They’ve now won 12 of their last 13 and sit atop the AL West with a record of 23-12.
The Astros are set to send out Jake Odorizzi to the mound for the start in this game while the Red Sox are likely to start Garrett Whitlock. Odorizzi, while not an ace by any means, has actually been pitching quite well in his recent starts. The 32-year-old righty is coming off two consecutive starts without allowing a single run with his most recent a five inning, five strikeout performance in a 5-0 win over the Detroit Tigers. His purple patch has now made it only one earned run in his last 17 and two-thirds innings of work with the ‘Stros winning all three of those starts. His adversary Garrett Whitlock is a talented young pitcher who is coming off an 8-4, 1.96 ERA year in the 2021 season and has started 2022 off with a strong 2.19 ERA in nearly 25 innings pitched. However, the 25-year-old has given up five earned runs in his last two starts, which spanned only eight innings.

Our Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros Prediction
We’re going to back the Houston Astros at above even money to get the win in this game. While the price does look a bit suspicious given both teams’ recent performances, it is most likely attributed to the perceived pitching advantage for the Red Sox. However, Houston likely has the bullpen advantage and undoubtedly has the offensive advantage. Combined with the excellent form of Odorizzi over his last three quality starts, the Astros should have enough to get by Boston at Fenway Park.
