The Boston Celtics host the Philadelphia 76ers for game five of the Eastern Conference second round with both teams looking to take a 3-2 series lead. The second-seed Celtics are around 1.33 favorites according to the bookmakers to advance to a Conference Finals matchup against either the eighth-seed Heat or the fifth-seed Knicks. The third-seed 76ers comes in at a price of 3.40 to upset the odds and knock out Boston, which would also signify the first time the team will have made the Conference Finals since the Allen Iverson led Finals team of 2001.
The 76ers battled back in game three to earn a 116-115 overtime victory and tie the series up at 2-2 after losing games two and three. We’re now back at square one as the series returns to the TD Garden with the 76ers having to play away from home in two of the remaining three games. Philly was one of the stronger teams on their travels this season, putting up a 25-16 away record in the regular season while also winning three of their four away playoff games so far.
Boston holds the cards heading into game six with a game on their home court where they put up a dominant 32-9 record in the regular season, tied for the third best mark in the entire league. These two teams have already faced off more than 10 times this campaign with the regular season and playoffs combined. Boston has won seven of the 12 clashes including four wins from six in front of their home fans. It’s also interesting to note that the Celtics have covered the spread in all six of their postseason wins so far.
