Top seed Borna Coric takes on the sixth seeded Sebastian Baez for a place in the Winston Salem Open. The winner takes on Jiri Lehecka in the final who received a walkover against Sebastian Korda in the other semi-final. Coric is ranked 29th in the latest list but up to 23rd in the live rankings. He's the 27th seed in the upcoming US Open and yesterday's draw paired him with none other than Sebastian Baez in the first round. That match will also be played on an outdoor hard court but over five sets rather than the three of this match. Coric has dropped only one set in his three matches played this week. That was the middle set in his third round victory over Michael Mmoh. The last eight saw him defeat Juan Martin Cerundolo for the loss of just four games. This is his second  recent hard court semi-final having lost at this stage to eventual winner Stefanos Tsitsipas in Los Cabos.

Sebastian Baez is up to 36th in the live rankings, six places higer than the start of the week. The Argentinian is in his first hard court tournament since reaching the last 64 in Miami five months ago. He's had more wins on this surface in Winston Salem than all year. He had to come from behind to win his first match after losing the first set to Daniel Elani Galan. Another three-setter followed in the third round as he eventually got past the ninth seed Aleksandar Vukic. Baez caused an upset in the last eight when beating fourth seeded Laslo Djere in straight sets. He only lost three games, all of them in the first set. This is their first match and we go for Coric to get the win.
