Bolts vs Barangay Ginebra Prediction & Betting Tips - PBA, Governors Cup
by Joseph King | in Basketball Predictions
The Meralco Bolts and Barangay Ginebra face off in game four of the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday. The defending champions Ginebra are looking to avoid going down 3-1 in the series while the Bolts are looking to finally overcome the team that has caused them so much trouble over the past few seasons. The Bolts might finally have broken through the mental barrier that saw them lose to the Gin Kings in three of the last four Governors’ Cup finals. However, head coach Norman Black must keep his team focused as the Bolts held a similar 2-1 finals lead back in 2016 only to drop the next three straight and lose the series 4-2 to Ginebra. Game three was a defensive affair as the Bolts gritted out an 83-74 victory after clamping down defensively to deny the Gin Kings a basket in the final 5:21 of the game.
Barangay Ginebra understandably seem to go the way of their star player and likely Best Import award winner Justin Brownlee. When Brownlee struggles, the Kings tend to lose and that trend was no different in game three. Brownlee shot 8 for 21 from the field and was held to just 19 points - well below his season average of 29.9. Bolts import Tony Bishop deserves a lot of credit for the position his team currently find themselves in as the 32-year-old Panamanian poured in 30 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. We touched on last time the absence of Ginebra big man Japeth Aguilar being a major reason why we backed the Bolts in game three and by all reports he remains a game time decision. The Kings will likely need the 2019 finals MVP back if they want to win this series and have sorely missed his presence on the inside so far.

Our Bolts vs Barangay Ginebra Prediction
We’re going to back the Bolts on the +4.5 spread as our pick for this game. It’s a bit puzzling the jump in the spread considering that the previous games were around the +2.5 mark. Aguilar might be able to suit up for this one but we haven’t seen any definite confirmation of that being the case. Ginebra are an experienced team with a winning mentality so a strong response is to be expected here, however, we cannot ignore the excellent ball that the Bolts are playing. They’re likely to keep this one close even if they ultimately do fall short in the end.
