A place in the Super Rugby final beckons, as Blues host Brumbies in the first semi-final slated for Friday at Eden Park. The hosts earned their place in the last four after brushing aside Fijian Drua 36-5 while Brumbies thumped Highlanders 32-16. Ahead of the clash against the Brumbies, Blues will be looking to extend their imperious home form. They are yet to taste defeat in 2024 and have been victorious in 20 of their last 21 games at Eden Park. Vern Cotter’s men are also enjoying a fine season having finished the regular season with the most potent attack. This has mostly been down to the red-hot form of their flanker Hoskins Sotutu who landed 11 tries. The 25-year-old was just one shy from the top try scorer in the regular season, Sevu Reece whose Crusaders failed to make the top eight.

The Brumbies are the only team still flying the Australian flag in the competition after the exit of the Reds and Rebels. Stephen Larkham’s men will be hoping to improve on their recent struggles in the semis against Kiwi sides. Their recent run has seen them lose away to New Zealand teams in the semis in the previous two years. The semi-finals have often been their stumbling block having lost five in the last eight seasons. Their most recent win in the last four dates back to 2013 when they overcame the Bulls 26-23. The game against Blues however represents a chance to avenge their 2022 defeat in the same hurdle.
