The Magnolia Hotshots and Blackwater Bossing close out their regular seasons when they face off at the Ynares Sports Center for this PBA Governors’ Cup matchup. The Hotshots still have an outside shot at finishing in the top four spots if they are able to win this game and if other results go their way. A top four finish brings with it the significant “twice to beat” advantage in the playoff quarter-final compared to the “twice to win” structure for those that finish fifth through eighth. Magnolia currently sits sixth in the standings with a record of six wins and four defeats following their 121-115 overtime win over Terrafirma Dyip in their last outing. The win is the latest in a recent hot streak for the Hotshots as they have now won back-to-back games and six of their last seven. It’s been quite the turnaround for Magnolia after they started the season 0-3 and they will be dreaming of their first title since they took down the Governors’ Cup in the 2017/18 season.
Standing in their way is a Blackwater Bossing team looking to throw a wrench into the works. Blackwater is eliminated from the upcoming postseason as it sits rock bottom in the standings with a record of one win and nine defeats in 10 games. The last outing resulted in a 110-104 loss for Bossing which represents the team’s eighth loss in a row. The Govenors’ Cup this season is the latest in a disappointing season for Bossing who, since the team’s creation in 2014, has only managed to make the playoffs five times in 18 attempts and has never won a championship. A bottom-place finish this season would mark the ninth time in 18 tournaments that the team would suffer the indignity of finishing rock-bottom in the standings. Blackwater Bossing’s offense has really struggled in recent games, failing to crack the 100-point mark in two of their last three.
