Fourth seeded Veronika Kudermetova faces unseeded Bianca Andreescu in the Adelaide International second round. For the winner of this match there's a quarter final against either seventh seeded Jelena Ostapenko or unseeded Irina-Camelia Begu. Kudermetova began this week ranked ninth in the world after rising 22 places during last year. That included being the losing finalist in three finals and getting to the last eight of the French Open and also at Indian Wells. Kudermetova had a strong end to 2022 with two semi-finals and a quarter final. The first round of this tournament saw her beat Amanda Anisimova, losing just three games and she'll hope to build on that in this second round match.

Bianca Andreescu is ranked 46th but gained direct entry into this tournament due to a protected ranking. 2022 also began with the Canadian in 46th place but she slipped down to as low as 121st in April. The rest of the year was spent gradually climbing back up the rankings reaching the Italian Open quarter finals and losing in the final of a grass court tournament held in Germany. It wasn't a great year for her in the Grand Slams with a couple of second rounds and a third round in the US Open. Injury prevented her from playing in the Australian Open last year. The Canadian has made it to Australia this year and beat Garbine Muguruza in the first round. It wasn't an easy win though after she lost the first set without winning a game. The second set was won on a tie-break and then Andreescu only dropped one game in the final set. That win has taken her up to 42nd in the live rankngs. Another tough match awaits her here and the tip is for a Kudermetova win.
