Eighth seeded Bianca Andreescu takes on unseeded Sara Sorribes Tormo in the Miami Open quarter final. Tormo is ranked 57th in the world and a pretty good clay player. That was shown last year when beating Naomi Osaka on that surface in the Federation Cup. Osaka hasn't lost since and could face Tormo in the last four of this event. The Spaniard has never made it past the second round in a Grand Slam event and had never won a match in Miami until this tournament. It's a big improvement on losing to the world 387 Daria Gavrilova at the Australian Open. She's had a successful March though winning a Mexican tournament and staying in the country to reach the last four of another event. This tournament has seen her beat three seeds already, namely Jennifer Brady, Elena Rybakina and Ons Jabeur. A win over Andreescu would be only her second over a top ten ranked player, the other being that win over Osaka.

Bianca Andreescu reached the fourth round of this event in 2019, that's the last time it was held. That was the year that she  won the US Open, Indian Wells and the Canadian Open. Last year didn't go well though with her career hindered by a knee injury and the pandemic. 2021 has seen her beaten in the second round of the Australian Open but she did reach the last four of the Phillip Island Trophy, an event held in Melbourne. That February event was the last one she played before heading to Miami. Wins have come in this event over two seeds with victories over Amanda Anisimova and in-form Garbine Muguruza, who she beat for the loss of only five games. Bet on her to make the last four with a side bet on a tie-break in the match.
