Bianca Andreescu looks back to her top form in the Miami Open. Her semi-final opponent is Maria Sakkari, who beat Naomi Osaka in the last round. Andreescu burst onto the scene in 2019 winning not just Indian Wells and the Canadian Open but the US Open. Last year was a write-off for her due to a mixture of the pandemic and a knee injury. The Canadian has returned to the circuit but lost in the second round of the Australian Open. Better form was shown with a run to the semi-final of the Philip Island Trophy but with no wins over any top 50 ranked players. This is her first tournament since then and Andreescu seems to love playing in America. Her best win in this tournament has been over recent Dubai champion Garbine Muguruza. The quarter final saw her defeat unseeded Sara Sorribes Torma in three sets. 

Her opponent in this semi-final is Maria Sakkari who is seeded 23rd for this event. The Greek player is in her third semi-final of the year but is yet to make a final. The last four has been reached in Abu Dhabi and the Gippsland Trophy in Australia. A quarter final appearance happened in Qatar but she lost in the first round of the Australian Open. Sakkari only dropped six games in her first two matches in this tournament. It was a lot tougher in the last 16 as she beat the consistent Jessica Pegula in three sets. The quarter final saw her best performance, losing only four games to Naomi Osaka. How will she react to that win? Often players don't react well and that has to be feared.
