32nd seed Bernabe Zapata Miralles faces unseeded Diego Schwartzmann in the Roland Garros first round. Miralles begins this tournament ranked 37th in the world but withdrawals have seen him take the final seeding position. The Spaniard is playing this Grand Slam for the third time in his career. After a first round exit in 2021, he reached the fourth round last year.beating Taylor Fritz and John Isner before losing to Alexander Zverev. Miralles will meet Isner in the second round if he can win and the American defeatts Nuno Borges. The 26-year-old began his 2023 clay court season in South America. He had a fair amount of success too as he reached two semi-finals. In Europe, Miralles has made the quarter-finals in Estoril and the last 16 in Madrid. In Rome, he lost to eventual winner Daniil Medvedev in the last 32 after winning the first set. His most recent tournament was in Geneva where he lost in the second round.

Diego Schwartzman also made it to the fourth round here last year. At that time he was the 15th seed but begins this year's Roland Garros ranked 93rd. His year has been a hugely disapoointing one and seen him drop 68 places since the start of 2023. Could a return to Roland Garros see him start climbing the rankings again? The Argentinaisn has reached the last four in Paris and another quarter final appearance. However, even on clay this year it's not gone well for him. He also played in the South American clay court tournaments and didn't win one of his four matches. It's been a poor time for him in Europe too with his last five matches all being lost. Three of those losses were inflicted on him by players ranked outside the top 95. He's had one previous match against Miralles and that was in the Argentinian Open this year. Miralles won that for the loss of only four games and we believe he'll win this match too.
