The winner goes into the second round against either the Australian Dane Sweeny or the Taiwanese Tung-Lin Wu, who are both unseeded. The 28-year-old, who was born in Lebanon but now represents Germany, is now 149th in the live ranking, which beats his previous 150th career high position. McCabe had lost three of his last four Challenger Tour matches, but he did withdraw in one of the losses when it was one-set all. In the qualifying round of the ATP Shanghai Masters, McCabe lost without winning a set to third-seeded in qualifying James Duckworth.
