World number 62 Benjamin Bonzi will begin his Indian Wells campaign with a first-round battle against Jenson Brooksby. The winner of the second career meeting at tour level will play 17th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Bonzi is ending a two-year hiatus from this Masters 1000 event. The last time the Frenchman competed at Indian Wells, he produced a third-round finish. That was on his debut campaign in 2022.

Bonzi has won nine of 15 matches this season, alternating between the tour and challenger circuits. Starting his campaign 61st in the live ranking, Bonzi was last on the court in Acapulco.

Brooksby is also ending a two-year absence from Indian Wells. The American had a fourth-round finish here in 2022, one of his best-ever finishes at a Masters tournament. He will be eager to relieve the experience.

Brooksby is having a slow start to his return to competitive action after a two-year suspension and injury layoff.

The 24-year-old former world number 33 made his first appearance since January 2023 at the Australian Open. He has played four matches and won just once.

Currently placed outside the top 900, Brooksby was eliminated in the second round at the San Diego Challenger last time out.

Brooksby has won both meetings with Bonzi, most recently a straight sets victory at Wimbledon in 2022.
