It is a long time since Dariush (22-6-1) earned his big win over Tony Ferguson in 2021. However, in that four-and-a-half-year spell, he has fought just three more times, missing all of 2024 with an injury to the meniscus in his knee.
His last victory came back in October 2022, a unanimous decision win over Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 280. Since then, he lost to Charles Oliveira by TKO at UFC 289, and his last bout was in December 2023 when he was KO’d by Arman Tsarukyan in the first round.
In contrast, his opponent, Renato Moicano (20-5-1), has been busy in comparison over the past year. Since moving up to lightweight in 2020, in his eight lightweight bouts, he has won seven, including all the last six fights at the weight.
After a 15-month absence from the ring over 2023, he defeated Drew Dober by unanimous decision in February 2024 and followed that up with impressive TKO wins over Jalin Turner (UFC 300) and then Benoit Saint Denis in Paris back in September 2024.
