World number 55 Lorenzo Sonego has made it to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open where he will battle 21st seed Ben Shelton. The winner of their second meeting at a major will face Jannik Sinner or Alex de Minaur in the semis. Below is our prediction for this match.

Ben Shelton defeated Gael Monfils in the fourth round in three sets. Both players exchanged the first two sets in an intense matchup that saw all three sets require tiebreakers.

At the start of the fourth, however, Monfils retired. This saw Shelton advance to the quarter-finals for a second time in three Melbourne appearances. The American, a semi-finalist at the US Open two years ago, has moved up to 17th in the live ranking.

This is Sonego’s best-ever performance at a major. The Italian defeated qualifier Learner Tien in four sets to progress past the fourth round at a Grand Slam for the first time.
