Ben Shelton vs Aslan Karatsev Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP US Open

Ben Shelton is having another good run in an outdoor hard court Grand Slam. He faces Aslan Karatsev in the third round of the US Open and if winning will take on either 14th seeded Tommy Paul or 21st seed Alejandr Davidovich Fokina. Earlier this year, Shelton got to the last eight of the Australian Open, the only other hard court Grand Slam tournament. The American hasn't really built on that success and hasn't made it to another ATP Tour quarter final. He's fairly new on the tour though so hasn't had points to defend and has steadily made his way up the rankings. Shelton was ranked 47th at the start of the US Open but is now 39th in the live rankings. That's four places below his career high attained in May of this year. This tournament has seen him come from behind in the first round to get a four-set win over Pedro Cachin. That took him into a round two match against Dominic Thiem. He won the first set on a tie-break and then his opponent retired in set two after just one game.

Aslan Karatsev also has fond memories of the Australian Open as he reached the last four there in 2021. That remains the only time he's got past the third round of a Grand Slam event.  He was ranked 77th at the start of this tournament and is up to 61st in the live rankings. This is his second time in round three of the US Open having also done so two years ago. Karatsev had only won two matches in three Grand Slam events this year but has again been playing well in New York. He beat Jiri Lehecka in straight sets in round one and then took four sets to get past Roberto Carballes Baena in round two. We go for Shelton to win this match.
