Belinda Bencic caused a shock on Friday when beating defending champion and number one seed Elena Rybakina. The Swiss player came from a set down to reach her first WTA Tour hard court final since 2023 and that was when she won this tournament.
The 27-year-old has risen to 94th in the live rankings after slipping down the rankings due to injury. Only five players have earned more ranking points than Bencic this year. Three of her four matches this week have had over 19.5 games played in them.
Ashlyn Krueger is in only her second WTA Tour final. The other was played two years ago in Japan with the American lifting the trophy. This run to the final has taken the 20-year-old to a career high 40th.
It's been a successful year for her so far and in the WTA Live Race, Krueger is in tenth place after previously reaching two quarter-finals. This week has seen her beat McCartney Kessler, third seed Daria Kasatkina, eighth-seeded Leylah Fernandez and Linda Noskova.
