An interesting encounter awaits on Sunday when Bordeaux Begles face Racing 92 in the French Top 14 at the Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas. Begles had an impressive season and finished a respectable third place to secure home advantage in the quarters. Racing 92 have had a topsy-turvy campaign that had them wait till the final regular season game for playoffs qualification. Begles had a fine end to the season by securing a 40-7 bonus point victory over relegated US Oyonnax. The victory was crucial as it enabled them to pip Toulon to third place in the standings. The victory also highlighted the attacking arsenal at Yannick Bru’s disposal that has seen them bag 677. This is the third-best attack in the league behind Toulouse and Toulon. It does not stop there for the Begles who also have discipline on their side. They have only conceded 13 yellow cards and 264 penalties suffered which are both the third-best in the division.

Racing 92 did not enjoy as straightforward a season as their hosts. They secured their place in the playoffs by the skin of their teeth after suffering a final regular season defeat to La Rochelle. Stuart Lancaster’s men only punched their playoff ticket by virtue of having better points in the head-to-head record against Castres Olympique who finished seventh. Racing have already played Begles twice this season in the regular season with each team winning once. The 2016 Top 14 champions will however be missing the services of scrum-half Nolann Le Garrec who suffered an injury. Aside from injuries, Racing’s away form is not helping matters. They have won only one Top 14 game on the road this year.
