Putintseva has struggled in her career on grass and has only twice finished a season with a winning record since 2010. She has compiled a 16-22 record on the surface and has lost her only match on grass this year. Advancing from this tie will set up a second-round showdown with either Lucia Bronzetti or Jacqueline Cristian.
