Seventh seeded Ons Jabeur is in the Roland Garros quarter finals for the first time. The Tunisian takes on the 14th seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia with the winner possibly facing Iga Swiatek in the last four. Jabeur started this tournament ranked seventh in the world and is up a place in the live rankings. In the Live Race Jabeur is up eight places to 11th but a win here will see her climb to sixth place. The 28-year-old has won one title so far this year. That was on clay in Charleston when beating Belinda Bencic in the final. It was a welcome win as Jabeur had failed to get past the last 32 in her three previous hard court events. The European clay court season has seen her get to the semi-final in Stuttgart. On her way to the last four she beat Beatriz Haddad Maia and only lost three games, all in the first set. The final against Iga Swiatek only lasted three games. Jabeur was 3-0 down in the first set when retiring injured. Her only other clay tournament prior to Roland Garros saw her lose to Paula Badosa in straight sets. It's gone better for her at Roland Garros though with only one set dropped. That was the opening set in her third round match against qualifier Olga Danilovic. The last round saw her defeat unseeded Bernarda Pera for the loss of only four games.

Beatriz Haddad Maia has to try and forget that heavy loss to Jabeur in Stuttgart. The Brazilian was ranked 14th at the start of this Roland Garros tournament. Reaching the last eight for the first time has seen her climb one place in the rankings. Winning this match will see her go up to tenth and that will be a new career high for her. Roland Garros hasn't previously been a successful tournament for Maia. Three times she has lost in the qualifying rounds. When getting to the main draw only one match had been won in two tournaments. It's been a different story this year though and the first round saw her drop just one game when beating Tatjana Maria. It's been tougher since then with three sets needed in each of her subsequent matches. The last two rounds have seen her have to come from behind to get the win. Both of her previous matches against Jabeur have been lost though one was in 2016. Jabeur looks to be in the better form and can get the win here.
