Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Leylah Annie Fernandez Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA National Bank Open

Leylah Fernandez is the 13th seed for the Canadian Open and faces unseeded Beatriz Haddid-Maia in the second round. A tough task might well await in the next round with Iga Swiatek the likely opponent. Last year Fernandez reached the US Open final but like Emma Raducanu who beat her hasn't had a hugely successful 2022. Fernandez began this week ranked 13th but this is her first tournament since the French Open where she reached the quarter final. One tournament has been won this year, a WTA 250 event held in Monterrey but the highest ranked opponent beaten was 69th. On her way to that final, Fernadez beat Maia in straight sets. Those two tournaments are the only ones in which the Canadian has got past the last 16. The first round of this event was a bit of a struggle for Fernandez as she had to go to three sets (middle set lost) to get past unseeded Storm Sanders.

Beatriz Haddad-Maia began this year in 83rd position but two grass court titles in a row saw her zoom up the rankings. This week began with the Brazilian at a career high ranking of 24th. After those two title wins, Maiai got to the last four at Eastbourne but then crashed out in the first round at Wimbledon. Since then, only one tournament has been played and that was in San Jose where she was beaten in her first match by Claire Liu who was ranked 79th at the time making it three losses in a row. The Brazilian got back into winning ways in the first round of this event with a three-set win over Martina Trevisan,. Fernandez has home advantage here and can get the win.
