Beatriz Haddad Maia, the 27th seed at the US Open, will take on unseeded Karolina Muchova in the quarter-finals. Their fourth career match will produce a winner to face Iga Swiatek or Jessica Pegula in the semis. Read on for our prediction.

Maia is having her best-ever performance at Flushing Meadows. Before this season, the Brazilian had never won more than one main draw match here. In her last two appearances, she had fallen in the second round.

Now she is three wins away from a maiden Grand Slam title. Maia, who has compiled a 28-22 record, defeated two-time US Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round. She won in three sets as she claimed her eighth win in her last nine outings.

Maia has returned to the WTA top 20 and is now placed 17th in the live ranking.

Karolina Muchova is having another strong performance at the US Open. Last year, she produced a semi-final finish and is now one win away from equaling that feat.

With her dominance over Maia, she will be confident of booking her place in the last four. Muchova has defeated Maia in their three previous meetings. In their latest encounter, on a hard court in Cincinnati last year, she won in three sets.

The Czech player, who had a belated start to the year due to injury, is having a dominant run in New York. She has won all four rounds without dropping a set. In the last round, she defeated the in-form Jasmine Poalini by the loss of six games.

Muchova is currently placed 92nd in the live ranking after dropping 40 places due to losing 350 points.
