Undefeated Magnolia Hotshots look for their seventh consecutive victory when they head to Antipolo to take on Northport Batang Pier for this PBA Governors’ Cup matchup. The visiting Magnolia have been impressive this season and are among the favorites to win the conference as they currently occupy the first position in the table with a 6-0 record. Their last match was a comprehensive 103-83 victory over Phoenix Fuelmasters. The hosts are coming off their first win of the season, a surprise 109-98 away victory over the previously unbeaten and second place Meralco Bolts. This was a fantastic result that snapped a seven game losing skid dating back to the end of last conference’s Philippine cup in September. Northport are now 1-5 on the season and sit second to bottom in the league table. The Hotshots have been favored by the bookmakers in every game this season and this one is no different as the visitors will have to win this game by double digits if they are to cover the spread.

The underdogs Northport have reasons to be optimistic - they are coming off a big upset win and their new import, Jamel Artis, looks a fine player. After barely passing the height limit, the former NBA product has had an immediate impact and is a big reason why Northport were able to snap their losing streak and shock the Bolts, a match in which Northport were 9.5 point underdogs. In his two games with his new team, Artis is averaging 24.5 points, six rebounds and four assists per game - his contribution will be key for Northport as they look to make a late playoff push for one of the “twice-to-win” fourth through eighth positions. The hosts will have to make due without their starting point guard however, as Robert Bolick has been called up for international duty as the Phillipines face India for FIBA qualifying. Magnolia Hotshots are undoubtedly a top side and have a great chance to win the championship but this is a massive number to cover against a team that should be gaining momentum.
