Second seed Aryna Sabalenka and ninth seed Barbora Krejcikova will face off at the Australian Open on Tuesday. The two meet in the quarterfinals, with the winner setting up a semifinal showdown with either Cori Gauff or Marta Kostyuk. Barbora Krejcikova has equaled her best-ever result in Melbourne by advancing to this round. She will now seek to advance to the last four for the first time. Not since her title triumph at the French Open has Krejcikova ever played a semifinal tie at a major. To book this round, she had to come from a set down to defeat teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva in three sets. It was the third match so far in the competition that she had been forced to win a decider. Krejcikova, who has won four of five matches so far this season, is back in the WTA top 10. Aryna Sabalenka is the Australian Open defending champion. She won the title for the first time last season which is also her only major triumph. The Belarussian has been in exceptional form in Melbourne and with her excellent record against Krejcikova, will be confident of progressing here. Sabalenka, who has yet to relinquish a set in this competition, has won five of the six meetings between her and Krejcikova. One of those wins was in this very round at the US Open. Sabalenka will fancy her chances of retaining her title even more given that only two other top 10 players remain in the hunt. The 25-year-old has not lost more than five games in a single match and even secured a double bagel in the third round. To advance to this round, the current world number two defeated Amanda Anisimova by the loss of five games.
