A crucial match in Group D at the T20 World Cup is set to play out on Thursday afternoon when Bangladesh take on the Netherlands at the Amos Vale Stadium. Both these sides are level on two points, with The Tigers currently leading owing to their better net run rate. Bangladesh entered this competition as the third favourite to qualify from this group, but immediately put themselves in an advantageous position by beating second-favourites Sri Lanka in their opening match. They then took on favourites South Africa in match two and put in an excellent bowling performance to restrict the Proteas to 113/6 in 20 overs with Tanzim Hasan Sakib leading the way with 3/18. Unfortunately, the Tigers failed to capitalise on their impressive bowling as they came up agonisingly short in their run chase by four runs. Still, those performances suggested that the side deserves to be taken seriously this year and with their two most difficult matches now out of the way, their Super Eight destiny is firmly in their own hands. 

Meanwhile, the Netherlands also made a positive start to the competition, beating minnows Nepal in their opening fixture by six wickets and with eight balls to spare. Logan van Beek and Tim Pringle emerged as the standout performers in that match, bagging three wickets each to dismiss Nepal for just 106 in 19.2 overs. Match two saw the Flying Dutchmen pitted against South Africa, but they were unable to secure their third World Cup victory over the Proteas, whose bowling lineup spearheaded by Ottneil Baartman was too hot to handle and contained the Dutch to 103/9 before chasing down the total with a little more than an over to spare. With Sri Lanka having now lost both their matches so far, one of the two sides in this match seem the most likely to join South Africa in the next round, though the Netherlands are considered the underdogs, according to the bookmakers.
