The Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees will be seeing plenty of one another in the regular season, with both serious contenders for the American League East crown. They play in spring training on Saturday in Sarasota, Florida. The Orioles have looked sharp so far, winning seven of their first eight outings and they are the reigning champions of the division, looking like they are going to take some beating again this season. They have some young players, helped by a top-five pick in the draft in four straight years from 2019-2022 as well as the reigning Rookie of the Year in Gunnar Henderson. His 66 extra-base hits were only bettered on the team by the 70 from Anthony Santander and was good enough for 24th in the entire league.

New York will feel confident that they will put up more of a fight this year but a lot of that is going to depend on whether they are able to keep their stars healthy. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo all missed a large chunk of 2023 and the lack of production was the downfall of the team, dropping from scoring the second most runs in 2022 to the 25th most in 2023. It is very early in spring training but the signs have been positive with only the Dodgers posting more runs so far. That has been done without the three above getting much time, with just 12 at-bats between them. There is more depth to the Yankees this season and that is a dangerous thing.
