Australia welcomes the West Indies to Perth for the first of two Test matches in the World Test Championship. The home are currently on top of the table with 70% points claimed while the visitors are 7th with 50% points claimed. Australia will be determined to finish in the top two positions as this will allow them to contest the final. The Test Championship is the only major ICC trophy that has eluded the Aussies. The home team came into this match on the back of a defeat to Sri Lanka in their last Test which ended a run of nine consecutive matches unbeaten. Australia look to have the advantage over the Windies in both the batting and bowling departments. The likes of Steve Smith and David Warner will be eyeing out big scores against the opposition in the first Test.
This very young West Indian side faces a daunting task of trying to upset the number one ranked Test nation, something that none of their predecessors have managed to do in almost 30 years. The last time the men from the Caribbean beat the Aussies in a Test series was back in the 1992/93 season. Many of the current squad were not born when this last occurred. The West Indies bring good form into this match, having gone unbeaten in their last five matches with three wins and two highly respectable draws against England.

The Australians will look to their impressive batting lineup that includes the likes of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne who average above the 50 runs per inning mark. The best chance the Windies have of causing a massive upset will be to take early wickets otherwise they could be chasing leather for long periods in the Perth heat.
