Australia vs Netherlands Prediction & Betting Tips - Davis Cup
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Australia face the Netherlands in the quarter finals of the Davis Cup. The winners of this tie will take on either Spain or Croatia in the last four. The Australian team haven't won the Davis Cup since 2003 and will be without Nick Kyrgios for this tournament. They finished second behind Germany in the group stages and their top player will be Alex de Minaur who is currently ranked 24th in the world. He's won all four of the Davis Cup singles matches he has played this year. On the ATP Tour, his best recent performance is a semi-final in Stockholm. In the absence of Kyrgios, Australia's other singles player is going to be Thanasi Kokkinakis who is 95th in the world but has won two of his three Davis Cup singles matches this year. If this match goes to the doubles, Australia have the team of Purcell and Ebdon who won two of their three matches in the group stages.
The Netherlands were the surprise qualifiers for these finals. They finished top of their group with wins over Great Britain, the USA (who also qualified) and Khazakhstan. Their top player is Botic van de Zandschlup, currently ranked 35th in the world. He had some good wins in the group stages with both Cameron Norrie and Taylor Fritz being beaten. He was as high as 22nd in the rankings this year but has failed to get past the last 16 in any of his last six tournaments. His match against de Minaur will be a crucial match. Their other singles player is Tallon Greikspoor who hasn't got past the last 32 of a tournament since May. For the doubles they usually play Koolhoff and Middelkoop who lost two of their three matches in the group stages. That was surprising as Koolhoff is currently the top ranked men's doubles player in the world They could opt to play van de Zandshlup and Greikspoor who won a doubles title in Antwerp recently. Australia look to have a slight edge here and can reach the semi-finals.
