Australia vs Japan Prediction & Betting Tips - Basketball World Cup

Australia take on Japan in their final match in Group E of the 2023 FIBA World Basketball Cup. The Australians look destined to finish second in this group with leaders Germany fully expected to defeat Finland in their final match. Japan would ruin Australia's second round qualification dreams if getting a shock win here. We don't anticipate that will be the case. The Australians are ranked third in the world and began this group with a 98-72 win over Finland with Atlanta Hawks player Patrick Mills scoring 25 points. That was followed with a match against Germany who are ranked 11th but ran out 85-82 winners to top the group. Mills top scored again with 21 and he's likely to do so again against Japan. The Australians took an early lead but lost the second quarter by six points. They rallied well in the third quarter and led by four points at the end of it. A German comeback ruined their hopes of winning but they should be safe against Japan.
The Japanese side are ranked 36th in the world and began this tournament with a 81-63 loss to Germany. They lost the first two quarters by 22 points but drew the third and won the fourth by four points. They knew before this tournament began that it would be the match against Finland that would be their best chance of earning a win after losing all five games in the last World Cup. That proved to be the case as they defeated the Finns by ten points. It wasn't plain sailing though even after winning the first quarter by seven points as the second was lost by 17. That took them ten points behind and that was still the situation after the third quarter. Japan stormed the final quarter though winning it 35-15 and getting the win. American-born Joshua Hawkinson top scored for Japan with 28 points. We go for Australia to win this and cover a 14.5 point spread.
