Greece are eyeing their first win at the Olympics when they play Australia in their final Group A basketball match. Australia sit second with three points and Greece are fourth with two. Here’s our preview and a prediction for the game.

With a win, Australia will confirm their place in the knockouts. Brian Goorijan’s men came undone against Canada in the last round, losing 93-83. They led through the first two quarters but were unable to contain the star-studded Canadians after halftime.

Australia shot 48% from the field and 57% from inside the arc but were let down by their turnovers, committing 18 in total. Jock Landale, who led the Boomers in points in the win over Spain, scored 16 against Canada and added a game-high 12 points. Josh Giddey led the team with 19 points. Australia’s only win in this fixture came at Atlanta 1996.

Vassilis Spanoulis’ men have lost their two matches in Paris.

They began with an 86-79 defeat to Canada and then fell 84-77 to Spain. It has been a difficult return to the Olympic stage after a 16-year hiatus. In both games though, Greece managed to keep things close and haven’t lost by 10 or more points.

Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has been their go-to source on the offensive end. The forward has averaged 30.5 points through the first two games which is the most in the tournament. He put up a game-high 27 points against Spain and added 11 rebounds. Vassilis Toliopoulos was the only other player with double-digit points and poured in 14. Defeat for Greece here will see them eliminated.
