Australia have won the Rugby World Cup twice in their history. However, none of those wins have come in the 21st century, with the last triumph being in 1999. They are down to sixth in the world rankings but shold have few problems qualifying from Pool D. They take on Wales, Georgia and Uruguay later on but start with this match against Fiji. Australia have played their opponents 31 times in the past and only suffered two defeats with one match drawn. The defeats happened in 1952 and 1954 and the draw occurred 58 years ago. Since then, Australia have won 14 games in a row against Fiji. Current form has seen them get a big win and loss against New Zealand, on their day they are a major threat to anyone in this tournament.
Fiji have failed to make it out of their pool in the last two World Cup tournaments. They last made it to the quarter finals in 2007 and are currently ranked ninth in the world. Their target in this pool has to be to finish third and automatically qualify for the 2023 World Cup in France.
