Australia are almost always front-runners at any ICC competition, but their form leading up to this competition has been way off the mark, even by their own admission.
The Aussies have lost each of their last four one-day internationals, first to Pakistan and most recently to Sri Lanka, with the latter completing a 2-0 series sweep over them less than two weeks ago.
Arguably the most concerning part for the Baggy Greens is that they failed to score over 170 runs in any of those defeats while the most recent loss was their biggest in the last 12 years.

Meanwhile, England have been way off the mark in white-ball cricket in recent times too, starting with their underwhelming performance at the T20 World Cup last year.

Australia’s dip in form of late can partially be attributed to key absentees, as they have lost their entire first-choice pace attack to injury in recent weeks.
Skipper Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh are all out of the competition due to injuries, while Mitchell Starc pulled out of the team due to personal reasons.
The Aussies’ bowling attack will now be led by Aaron Hardie, Nathan Ellis, Spencer Johnson, and Sean Abbott.
Adil Rashid has three four-wicket hauls against Australia in ODIs.
England, on the other hand, will have to make do without Jacob Bethell, who sustained a hamstring injury in the last few weeks, with Tom Banton called up as his replacement.
Ben Duckett has been declared fit after suffering a leg injury in the third ODI against India. However, the entire Three Lions’ batting order struggled with spin against India and it remains to be seen how they will cope with Adam Zampa.
