Australia didn't have an easy first group in this 2019 FIBA World Basketball Cup. However, they came through games against Lithuania, Canada and Senegal with flying colours. They beat Canada by 16 points and Senegal by 13 and then defeated Lithuania (ranked sixth in the world) by five points on Thursday. They won the first half of that game by 11 points and managed to withstand a Lithuanian second-half comeback. With first round points carried through to the second set of groups, Australia are second behind France on points difference and a point clear of Lithuania and the Dominican Republic.

Their opponents are ranked 18th in the world, seven places below Australia. Their best World Basketball performance was 12th in 1978, they managed 13th in the last event and that's the only two times they have qualified for the finals. They were in the same group as France, Germany and Jordan in the opening stages of this tournament. Their campaign nearly got off to a disastrous start when only beating Jordan by four points. Up next, they beat Germany by a couple of points after trailing early on. They met their match in France though, losing that one by 34 points. Go for Australia to get the win here on a -18.5 points handicap.
