Australia - Canada: Form Analysis
Both teams have a 5-2 record coming into this matchup after each having lost once in the group stage and then their respective semi-finals. The Australians dropped their first game against France and would go on to a 5-1 record since then, while Canada lost to the USA and is 2-1 since that group stage game. Canada’s 43 points in the semi-final was their lowest total since 2017 when they lost to Spain and we’ll have to see how the players respond. Australia did very well to limit an extremely talented Chinese team to a tournament low 61 points, despite it ultimately not being enough to get the win. If they are able to keep up the same kind of defensive intensity against a possibly rattled Canadian team, then this could be a relatively easy day at the office for the hosts.

Australia & Canada Squad Analysis
Australia has excellent scoring balance in their squad, highlighted by their impressive average of 31.6 bench points per game. Samanta Whitcomb leads the way at 11.6 points per game but veteran big Marianna Tolo is one to watch on the inside as well. The 33-year-old has averaged 10.6 points and a team high 2.1 offensive rebounds (4.9 total) in the World Cup. Canada’s highest scorer in the semi-final loss was Laeticia Amihere with eight points. They’ll need a much improved performance from top scorer Bridget Carleton who was held to only six points in the loss despite averaging 13.6 for the tournament.
Australia - Canada Key Points
- These two teams met in the fourth round of the group stage of this competition where the Australians would walk away 75-72 winners in a closely contested game.
- Australia will look to take advantage of their overall team depth as they have averaged 31.6 points off the bench in this tournament while Canada has averaged 22.3
- Canada are coming off the lowest ever total points scored in a FIBA World Cup semi-final after being held to 43 points by the US.
- Australia also looks to have a significant advantage on the inside with veteran center Marianna Tolo playing at an extremely high level. Australia grabbed over 20 offensive rebounds in their loss to China.
- No Canadian player managed to score over 10 points in the semi-final loss to the United States.

Our Australia vs Canada Prediction
We’re going to back Australia to win the bronze medal and cover the -3.5 spread. It is a bit difficult to know how both teams will respond after the disappointment of missing out on the final. However, Australia should have more confidence coming into this game as they were incredibly close to defeating China despite being the underdogs in their matchup. Canada, on the other hand, suffered one of the heaviest ever defeats in their loss and there is certainly a possibility that the squad has been demoralized by the result. The home court advantage should pump Australia up enough to close out this tournament on a positive note.
