The 10th-place Miami Heat lock horns with the fourth-place Atlanta Hawks in this Eastern Conference matchup on Thursday night. After an 0-2 start to the 2023/24 NBA season, the Hawks have responded by winning five of their last six outings to bring their record to 5-3. Their last appearance was a slim 120-119 win over the Orlando Magic in Mexico City which saw Trae Young drain 41 points. Atlanta now returns to the State Farm Arena where they’ve amassed a 2-1 record up to this point before heading to Detroit to take on the Pistons. Atlanta have one of the best offenses in the NBA and their 121.8 points per game average ranks as the third best in the league. Where they have to improve is on the defensive end as their 117 points per game allowed is the seventh most in the league.

The Miami Heat have the opposite problem as they’ve been struggling to produce consistent offensive performances. The Heat stumbled out of the gates this year, losing four of their first five to dig themselves into an early hole. Last season’s NBA finalists have since recovered, snapping off a three game winning streak to pull even on the year at 4-4 ahead of this clash. Miami’s last outing was a 108-102 victory over the Ja-less Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. This is the second of a four game road trip for the Heat who will travel to San Antonio to take on the Spurs tomorrow night. Miami has gotten some fantastic performances from Bam Adebayo recently. The 26-year-old posted his seventh career triple-double against the Lakers and followed that up with a 30-point, 11 rebound, 3 block performance in the win over Memphis.
