The two Eastern winners from 2023 clash in spring training on Friday as the Atlanta Braves take on the Baltimore Orioles. The Braves have been slow to find their stride this spring, beating the Tampa Bay Rays in their first spring training game but struggling in the main since, including a 1-2 defeat at the hands of the Orioles. Like most of the teams, the household names have been very light on the action so far as the team assesses younger players for later in the season with Forrest Wall picking up three hits in the five at-bats he has had so far this preseason. Michael Harris has shown some pop, producing a pair of solo shots in just eight at-bats while Chris Sale and Spencer Strider both looked good in a pair of innings each.  

Baltimore is off to a quick start in spring training, with just a single loss at the time of writing to the Tampa Bay Rays on a split-squad day when the other half were beating the Braves. They made it to 6-1 when they narrowly beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. Colton Cowser saw a little bit of action with the big club last summer and has been stating a case for further opportunities in 2024. The 5th overall pick in the 2021 draft drove home a run in Yankee Stadium on his debut last year and has three hits in six at-bats in spring training, including two home runs which had resulted in five runs batted in. The depth of youth talent for the Orioles can have them as a contender for a long time.
