Aslan Karatsev vs Laslo Djere Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open
by Devesh Jaganath | in Tennis Predictions
The first round of the Mutua Madrid Open will continue on Thursday, and in our featured match, we will see Aslan Karatsev take on Laslo Djere for a place in the round of 64. Karatsev has seen his world ranking tank over this year, falling from 59th in January to 121st at present. The Russian is 10-8 this year and has found it difficult this year, since his semi-final appearance in Pune back in January. Karatsev showed some signs of improvement in his first clay court tournament of the year in Munich, qualifying and going on to reach the Round of 16 before coming up against the eventual runner-up Botic Van De Zandschulp, who won in straight sets. Karatsev has made another promising start here in Madrid, making it through the qualifiers with little difficulty against Raul Brancaccio and, more notably, Jan Lennard Struff in straight sets. Aslan now has a positive record of 5-3 on the clay and will be hoping to build on his good start with another win in this one.
The last time these two met was in the Alicante Challenger event way back in 2018, and the Russian won due to Djere retiring in the first set. The Serbian will see this as a chance for redemption and comes into this tournament after a solid performance in Srpska a couple of weeks ago. Currently ranked 70th in the world, Djere is 11-10 this year, and while he hasn’t been in excellent form he has found more joy on the clay, reaching two quarter-finals so far. In Srpska, Djere overcame Roman Safiulin in his opening match but then put on one of his best performances of the year to overcome Borna Coric in the round of 16. Against a player that’s been steadily falling in rank this year, Djere will fancy his chances of advancing to the next round.

Our Aslan Karatsev vs Laslo Djere Prediction
Despite the gap in ranking, Karatsev showed his true ability in his last match, stunning Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets. He comes into this match as the favourite but is up against an opponent that has looked good on the clay this month. Three of Djere’s last four matches have gone to a third set, and we fancy that he can pinch at least a set in this one. Our Aslan Karatsev v Laslo Djere prediction is for the match to go to three sets.
