Third seed Daria Kasatkina begins her 2025 Abu Dhabi Open campaign. The Russian faces unseeded Ashlyn Krueger in round two for a place in the last eight of this tournament. Here's our match prediction.

In the quarter-finals, the winner of this match will face either eighth-seed Leylah Fernandez or unseeded Lulu Sun. Kasatkina is 11th in the latest rankings but a place lower than that in the live list. 

Last year saw the Russian reach the final of this outdoor hard court tournament, being beaten by Elena Rybakina. 2025 has seen her reach one quarter-final so far. That was in Adelaide but she's made it to at least the third round in all three of her tournaments this year.

To reach the last eight, Ashlyn Krueger must beat Kasatkina for the first time. Both of their previous meetings have ended in defeat for the American.  The only one on hard courts was in this tournament last year.

Krueger is 51st in the live rankings after beating qualifier McCartney Kessler in three sets in round one. A win here will take the 20-year-old into her third quarter-final of the year. Last eights have already been reached in Brisbane and Adelaide.

This is tough for her and we tip Kasatkina to get the victory.
