Ashleigh Barty is on course for a fourth title of the year. However, to get to the Madrid Open final, she needs to get a win over Paula Badosa. The Spaniard got a win over the world number one in Charleston and that was on clay. Barty is a former French Open champion so of course she knows her way around a clay court. She's already won one clay court title this year with success in Stuttgart. That saw her beat Aryna Sablenka in the final and a repeat is on the cards if Barty wins and the Belarusian wins her semi-final. Barty has twice had to go to three sets on her way to the last four. The first of those was against qualifier Tamara Zidansek, the other yesterday's quarter final against Petra Kvitova.

Paula Badosa was ranked 94th in the world this time last year. She's due to rise to 42 after her efforts in this tournament, even higher if she can win this match. This is her second semi-final after a good run in Lyon in a hard court tournament. Badosa has also had success at the French Open, winning the Girl's Singles and reaching the fourth round of the Women's Singles last year. In Charleston, she didn't just beat Barty but also defeated Belinda Bencic. Can history repeat itself? Badosa has already got a win over Bencic in this tournament, now to beat Barty again.
