Top seeded Ashleigh Barty faces fellow Australian Ajla Tomljanovic in the Wimbledon quarter final. A win for Barty will ensure that she stays as world number one after this tournament. This is Barty's first quarter final at Wimbledon, previously she'd never got past the fourth round. Winning Wimbledon would be only her second Grand Slam title, the other being her French Open success two years ago. Barty has won three titles so far this year but she had a few problems in the first round of this tournament. The middle set was lost to Carla Suarez Navarro but since then, Barty has won three matches all in straight sets. That includes defeating French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round.

Ajla Tomljanovic has risen from 75th to 50th in the live rankings thanks to this quarter final appearance. That's still below the 39th place achieved two years ago but that'll be beaten if winning this match. This is her first Grand Slam quarter final and her last 22 tournaments at this level had seen her fail to get past the second round. Both Grand Slams played this year had seen her exit in round two. Her grass court record wasn't enhanced by the two tournaments played before Wimbledon and she failed to qualify for Eastbourne. A much better effort has been made at Wimbledon though with wins over Greet Minnen, Alize Cornet in three sets and then a victory over Jelena Ostapenko in round three, after losing the first set. Her last 16 match against Emma Raducanu was won when her opponent retired ill in the second set. This is going to be tough for Tomljanovic, back Barty to win in straight sets.
